If there was a gendered insult that had the same sort of impact as “cunt” (e.g. “John McCain is a [word that means dick but is like a million times worse]”) then I wouldn’t see this as so obnoxious, but there isn’t. Cunt has the function of using women’s genitals as an insult, using being a woman as an insult in general (when applied to men), denigrating female genitals, denigrating all women with female genitals, then reducing a woman who is called a cunt to her genitals which are then seen as disgusting, dirty, bad, and evil.

I hate Sarah Palin as well but there are other ways to express displeasure than by using a misogynistic insult. She’s a moron and would be a moron whether or not she was male or female identified.
